Manchester United staff were told yesterday that 200 more employees will be sacked by April. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s announcement left employees emotional and uncertain over their future.
It was also revealed that the staff who survive the cuts will lose their remaining perks, as free lunches at Old Trafford will be replaced by fruit next week, according to The Guardian.
One staff member said that “It was the only perk left over” revealing that Monday meals were typically weekend match day leftovers. Staff morale at United has reportedly hit it’s lowest ever point.
So how else can Manchester United save money rather than axing 200 staff members and taking away their last perks.
1. Making Mason Mount Redundant

Mason Mount is currently on £250,000 a week. Meaning he earns £1 million a month which is the same amount that Manchester United will save by ending free lunches for staff. Unlike the staff who work tirelessly for hours upon end, Mount has played 1,159 minutes in the Premier league in 2 years, scoring just one goal.
2.The signing of Dan Ashworth

Dan Ashworth was signed by Manchester United in the summer was out of the job by Christmas. It was revealed that Manchester United spent close to 5 million pounds in order to sign Ashworth off of Newcastle.
3. Paying players in LIDL gift cards

Over Christmas staff were paid in M&S gift vouchers rather than there usual 100 pound Christmas bonus. The value of these gift vouchers were believed to be 40 pound. So why don’t the players get the same treatment? However I don’t feel they deserve the luxuries of M&S. So they can revel around the Lidl supermarket instead. I am sure Harry Maguire loves a groovy bar or two.
4. Players lift sharing

The players could save the club a lot of money if they all took it in turns to share lifts to games and training. The players pay a lot of money for their cars as it is. So why not drive up and down the country for match days. Saving the club a lot of money on a team coach as well as fuel money. This could become a problem for European games but the 15th place side will not have this to worry about for a long time.
5. Fixing stadium leaks with duct tape

Recently Manchester United have had to deal with stadium leaks as their appears to be holes in the roof at Old Trafford most recently in a press conference with Ruben Amorin. Rather than getting a professional to fix the problem. They should make a human ladder of players going in height order with Lisandro Martinez at the top filling any holes with duct tape.
