SHEFFIELD Wednesday have appointed Danny Rohl as their new manager following the departure of Xisco Munoz.
He becomes the youngest manager in the EFL at 34 years old, three years younger than Ipswich Town’s Kieron McKenna who previously held that title.
The German previously worked as an assistant to Ralf Hasenhuttl at Southampton as well as having coaching roles at Red Bull Leipzig and Bayern Munich.
Wednesday won promotion to the Championship via the playoffs last season but failed to win any of the games under Munoz leading to their worst start to a season in club history.
Rohl has never held a head coaching role in his career so Wednesday are taking a gamble on an unknown quantity who last worked with the German National side under Hansi Flick.
The Owls are seven points adrift of Stoke City in 21st but with over 30 games remaining in the season there is more than enough time to make up the points difference before the season concludes in May.
Rohl has stated that his aim is to establish simple football at the club and utilise on being progressive with possession.
Sheffield Wednesday return to action next Saturday at Vicarage Road to face a Watford side who are winless in five games.
