Lando Norris has outlined some areas of improvement for McLaren in Formula 1 despite their progress throughout 2023.
The British team scored a double podium with the 23-year-old and team mate Oscar Piastri last time out in Japan.
Norris delved into the intricacies of their MCL60 car: “Both Oscar and my comments are still like, ‘you have to drive the car like this’. It’s on a knife-edge.
“If you aren’t pushing to 100%, you’re just slow. I feel like we’re doing a good job finding that level, but it’s just very difficult.”
McLaren sit fifth in the Constructors’ Championship as they continue to close the gap to Aston Martin in fourth place.
The former took a sizeable step forward during July’s Austrian Grand Prix and have been scoring points regularly during the second half of the season.
Norris explained the team have more freedom to find performance as the car is meeting McLaren’s targets.
“I think we’ve got to a stage now we’ve got a quick enough car, we can now start to move things around a little bit.
“When you’ve got a slow car and you’re moving things around, the focus is in the wrong area. We need load, then driveability, rather than driveability and then load.”
Norris will hoping for a return to the podium this weekend in Qatar, the same circuit where he delivered a points scoring, ninth place finish two years ago in 2021.
Piastri will be making his debut at the Losail International Circuit.
