Last night four-time league MVP Lebron James made his Philadelphia 76ers debut in their preseason clash against the Brooklyn Nets.
The former Los Angeles Lakers forward looks to start his record breaking 24th season in the NBA this October with the game last night being one of the preseason fixtures leading up to opening night.
James put up ten points, four rebounds and five assists in only 18 minutes of playing, shooting an scoring one shot but put away all eight of his free throws.
Going into the half time the Sixers led the Nets 56-53 but eventually lost the game 108 to 114 to Brooklyn with James not playing in the second half.
This fixture also came in the light of Sixers backup center Ariel Hukporti tearing his achilles in a previous preseason game against the Knicks.
This injury and lack of centers in the Sixers roster led to head coach Nick Nurse officially naming James as a backup center on the depth chart.
James is no stranger to playing the center position despite it being one of his less common positions, playing center consistently in the 2021/22 season with the Lakers where he averaged 30 points and just over eight rebounds and six assists.
However as the 41 year old heads into the final seasons of his career, the lack of athleticism and physicality could be a problem when James plays as a center.
With his last championship coming in 2020 during the Covid season, James ended his 8-year stint in LA this past summer by signing a veteran-minimum with the Sixers as a last attempt to win his final championship.
As well as the four-time champion, the Sixers also brought in former finals MVP and last season MVP candidate, Jaylen Brown to go along with the cast of superstars Tyrese Maxey and former league MVP Joel Embiid.
Bookmakers currently have the Sixers as 4th favourites to win the Championship this season despite creating one of the more exciting superteams in NBA history.
