VIKTOR Gyökeres is the name on everyone’s lips after he scored a hat-trick vs Manchester City and Pep Guardiola in the Champions League but he hasn’t taken the easy route.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1998 Gyökeres started his career at IF Brommapojkarna before Brighton and Hove Albion took a chance on the then 20 year old in 2018.
But after failing to make a name for himself at Brighton and failed loan spells to St Pauli and Swansea City Gyökeres knew that a loan move to Coventry City could be his last chance to prove him self.
Despite only three goals in 19 games Coventry saw something within Gyökeres and made the move permanent and he left Brighton having only made 4 senior appearances for the seagulls.
Gyökeres then repaid Coventry’s faith show in him by helping them to the Play-off Final vs Luton in 2023, despite losing Gyökeres had finally showed to the world that he can make it at a higher level.
After the failed promotion Gyökeres was the talking point on many clubs lips throughout the summer transfer, but it was ultimately Sporting CP in Portugal who gained the strikers services.
The Swede left Coventry after two seasons and 38 goals in 91 games.
However it was here at Sporting where the now 26 year old really gathered momentum in his career with the Swedish international now scoring 66 goals in 67 matches and 23 in only 17 this season.
Within his first season he guided the Portuguese club to their 20th league title as well as picking up both top goalscorer and player of year awards in his first season.
Now establishing him self as one of the most prolific strikers in all of Europe with every big team in Europe looking to snatch him away from Sporting.
But with his manager Ruben Amorim joining Manchester United next week, is the Swede ready to make the jump into the big leagues and prove him self even more.
