AFC Stoneham are looking to finally break their promotion curse, after finishing the Velocity Wessex Football League second for two years in a row with both seasons ending with 90+ points.
Following 11 wins out of a possible 12, The Purps sit joint top of of the table with Petersfield Town on 33 points however do have a game in hand on them.
The team will travel to fellow Southampton base side Hamble Fc on Saturday as they look to use their ‘Favourite status’ to go on and win, edging them closer to breaking their promotion curse.
New summer signing and ex professional Brett Williams, said: “I’ve always see them as a club in the wrong league.”
After already being knocked out of the Hampshire Senior Cup by Step 3 Sholing FC and the FA Cup First Round Qualifying by Hungerford Town.
The Purps still remain in the Russell Cotes Cup, SDFA Senior Cup and ISUZU FA Vase.
Brett said: “yeah massive, I think I’ve only just joined but it’s a local side to me.
And I’ve known they’ve come like second like twice in a row, It’d be massive to take that jump and then I think they’d go again”
On course to break their curse Stoneham will be hoping to keep their 14 games unbeaten in all competition since their only loss in late August to Sherborne Town.
Well last season Stoneham finished the season 91 points but fell short of Automatic promotion by 12 points to AFC Portchester.
However after failing to get promotion the Purps went on to win the double winning the Hampshire Senior cup and SDFA Senior Cup
With majority of the season left will the Purps do their impossible task or will they make it three years on a trot where they fail to get promotion!
