Andy Murray latest injury casts doubt for Wimbledon

FORMER Wimbledon winner Andy Murray could miss this year’s tournament after his injury at the Miami Open.

Murray suffered a ‘full rupture’ of his ankle in a defeat to Tomas Machac on Sunday.

The injury initially occurred in the tenth game of the final set when the the Brit collapsed on the floor whilst racing towards the net.

Although Murray initially looked in significant pain he opted to continue playing without even taping the ankle.

Despite his best efforts he was narrowly beaten by his Czech opponent by a tiebreaker.

Murray announced the severity of the injury in a post on Instagram.

The former world number one is now in a race against time to be fit for Wimbledon.

The 2024 Wimbledon championships could be Murray’s last ever time participating in the tournament if he is back fit in time.

This comes after speculation recently that Murray could retire at the end of this year.

The 36 year old has struggled with injuries for years and last won a major in 2016, the same year he became number one in the world.
