THE Italian under-23s cycling team have started to recruit experienced players as they edge closer to their pre-season camp in Italy.
The team was founded by a former Italian professional cyclist Flavio Zappi in 2009.
The team competes in races all across Europe with camps and races in England, Italy and France.
The Italian outfit has signed 19-year-old Gabriel Bolton to join them in the pursuit of re-gaining the GP Carnago which they achieved in 2024 at Lombardy in Italy.
Gabriel said that he’s excited to sign for the Italian side: “It’s quite exciting joining a new team because it gives you new opportunities.
“You get different chances to craft your skill and really develop. It’ll give me a new chance to develop.”
New addition Maxwell Hereward is looking forward to showing what he can bring to his new fans: “I’m feeling excited and looking forward for the future for next year and seeing what I can do in the continental ranks in Italy.”
The riders have gone over two years without any silverware to show for their efforts but the players in the camps are confident that this will change this year.
Maxwell explains his aim for the season: “My ambition is to win a UCI race, as well as some national races.
“Well hopefully a lot of national races, but at least podium or win a UCI race to really show myself!”
Zappi will be racing in iconic cities such as Verona, Bologna and the North of Paris where they’ll be chasing silverware across Europe hoping to end their dry spell.
With strong new additions to the team, will they finish with medals around their necks this year?
