A WINTER ice rink in Southampton is now open to the public, kickstarting Christmas festivities.
Westquay On Ice opened its door to locals on Friday, October 23rd, to the delight of those who took to the ice.
The covered rink located at Southampton’s premium shopping centre will open daily over the festive period and leading into the New Year.

There will be plenty of opportunities to skate, with On Ice open from now until Sunday, January 3rd.
The venue has become a welcome tradition for residence, who would usually have to travel outside of the city to ice skate.
Southampton lasted boasted a permanent ice rink in 1988. Instead residences would have to travel to Planet Ice Gosport (roughly a 38-minute drive away).
The West Quay facility will be open on weekdays between 3 PM – 9 PM and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM – 9 PM.
But the wait for a permanent attraction will go on, with there currently no plans to build a ice rink that residences can enjoy year round.
The debate of where and if building that permanent fixture is both practical and plausible is one that has divided locals.

Tickets for Westquay on Ice are on sale now, with a 45 minute session costing Adults (13+) £15.00 and Children (12 & Under) priced at £13.00.
There will be plenty of events taking place in the next few weeks and months to keep skaters entertained.
Southampton Spitfires will be taking part in an annual Ice Hockey Winter Showcase in support of Movember at The Esplanade on Tuesday, November 3rd.
