ROMSEY Rugby Club secured promotion to the Counties 2 Hampshire League last season and now find themselves in the eighth tier of Rugby Union.
The Hampshire-based club finished runners-up in Counties 3 last term having finally made the jump after two midtable campaigns.
The club based just north of Romsey have had a difficult start to life in tier eight, losing four of their opening five games, with their solitary win coming at rivals Southampton in early October.
That result came following a string of defeats to start the season, beginning on the Isle of Wight at Ventnor before back-to-back home losses to New Milton and US Portsmouth, respectively.

Despite a struggling start to the season which sees club hovering just above the drop, second row player Jack Light has full belief the club can turn their fortunes around.
“It’s been a tough start to the season but hopefully we have settled in a bit now I think the realisation of how we started it’s going to get everyone going and I know all the lads are really up for it.
“We have a tough string of games coming up but I think if we can get a win out of one of those it will really get us going and hopefully we can cause some upsets.”
However their League season started in devastating fashion with their 17-7 opening day defeat at Ventnor compounded by a life changing injury to player Simon Purdon.
Romsey’s Fly half collided with four oncoming Ventnor players with the tackle dislocating his spine and rupturing a disk in his neck forcing him to retire from the sport.

The club will go in search of just their second win of the campaign when they travel to Havant on Saturday.
Team manager Tim Clayton is expecting another tough test:
“I’m expecting them to have a big squad and a big heavy pack, Havant always know what there doing so were expecting a big rugby game Saturday.”
