SHOLING Football Club came very close to securing a place in the Southern Premier South playoffs for a chance to reach their biggest ever height, the National League South.

Their sixth place finish has still been the club’s highest ever position.

It’s a great time for everyone involved with the club, though not many will have a bigger smile than Byron and Dan Mason. The brothers have been Boatmen their whole lives, including the Wessex League days.

Byron said during the season:

“So proud, we’ve always felt like we were better on the pitch than we were off the pitch, we had a very good team.

“We knew we could climb the leagues, but it was just off the pitch we couldn’t do it because the facilities weren’t good enough.

“What’s happening around here at the moment is just setting us up to move to the next level.”

Dan added: “It’s amazing, when you’re playing on the old pitches in front of 50 people and now you look at it we get a good gate. We’ve got so much going on at the club.

“We’re in the highest league we’ve ever been in.”

The Mason’s experience has played a part in the journey of their beloved club, one such player it has rubbed off on is Brad Targett, who himself has nine years in a red and white shirt:

“Leadership, passion, an all-round leader, talk you through a game.

“That’s what I think they can bring to to the team”

Former First Team Analyst, Joshua Jupp, experienced the team spirit first hand:

“It was very clear from everyone, from the coaching staff and the players, that they all had a big goal they wanted to achieve.

“Everyone was very committed from day one to what they wanted to achieve, and everyone pushed each other to further towards that goal.”
