THE 2026 Formula One season began earlier this morning with the first two practice sessions already completed.
Ferrari topped the proceedings in FP1 with Charles Leclerc setting the pace in the first session of the season. Lewis Hamilton secured the Scuderia 1-2, four tenths behind his Monegasque teammate.
Reigning World Champion Lando Norris finished way down the order in his Papaya McLaren having only completed seven laps.
New boys, Cadillac to no surprise seem to be just finding their feet in a new chapter for the American team. Both Valterri Bottas and Sergio Perez were a few seconds off Ferrari at the front of the pack.
In even less shocking news, Aston Martin managed a whopping three laps in the first session of what looks like an incredibly long season ahead for the Silverstone based team. Lance Stroll, the only driver out of the two to take part in the session finished a humble 30, yes three-zero seconds off Leclerc’s lap time.
Things weren’t exactly plain sailing for Aston Martin in the second session either. Both drivers finished 20th and 21st respectively, with Sergio Perez not setting a competitive time behind them.
It was encouraging news for McLaren fans as home favourite Oscar Piastri topped the timings in FP2, three tenths quicker than Leclerc in the previous session.
Mercedes, the favourites going into the weekend, showed positive signs in the latter session, finishing P2 (Antonelli) and P3 (Russell), two drivers to certainly look out for in Sunday’s race.
There were no clear signs to see which mid table team will come out on top, although Haas were consistent in both sessions.
All eyes are focused on qualifying tomorrow and who will come out on top in the inaugural race of the season.
