THE end is near for the League phase in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with the knockouts fast approaching.
We have teams who have dominated their opposition, teams that have surprised us and pulled off some unexpected results and some who have simply under-performed.
There are four teams who have gained automatic qualification to the knockout stages in the new year. With a team coming from Spain, France, Germany and England.
Barcelona qualified winning three and drawing one and Lyon have progressed with the same statistics as the Spanish giants.
Wolfsburg is the next team heading straight to the knockouts with two wins and two draws under their belt. Manchester United were the last team to snap up automatic qualification as they also registered two wins and two draws.
The teams going through the play offs come next and there is seeded teams and unseeded teams but with two games left to play, any of these play off positions can change.
As it stands, the seeded teams, who have home advantage for the last game, are:
- Bayern Munchen, three wins and one loss, missing out on qualification due to goal difference.
- Chelsea, two wins and two draws.
- Real Madrid, two wins, one draw and one loss.
- Juventus, two wins, one draw and one loss.
Again, before the last two fixtures, the unseeded teams, who don’t have home advantage and will have to travel away for the last game are:
- Athletico Madrid, two wins and two losses.
- Arsenal, two wins and two losses, sitting just behind Athletico Madrid due to goal difference.
- OH Leuven, one win, two draws and one loss.
- Paris FC, one win, two draws and one loss.
There are six teams who are sat in immediate elimination and just have to hope that they can pull off results to send them into play offs, they are:
- Valerenga, five points.
- Twente, two points.
- Benfica, one point.
- Roma, one point.
- St Polten, one point.
- Paris St Germain, zero points.
Will any of these change? Will some unseeded teams become seeded or will any of the teams sat in immediate elimination manage to push their way into the play-offs?
All will be played out on the last two fixtures, ninth-tenth December and the 17th December.
