During the winter season WADAC (Winchester and district athletics club) pole vault group train inside due to the weather.
Training two to three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and possible Saturdays, the vaulters get plenty of time to master their skills on and off the bed.
With pole vault being a predominantly outdoor sport their indoor training mostly consists of plyometric circuit training strengthening the core skills needed to be competitive at pole vault.
It having just turned winter the group can expect to find themselves put through their paces for the next couple of months.
With pole vault being a sport that is not very well practiced people could be put off by it as the public rarely hear about the sport as it doesn’t get the media attention that other sports such as football and Formula 1 do.
Speaking to a handful of athletes on why they chose to do pole vault and why the continue to train for it. I found that it can be quite enjoyable.
