Winchester City fan Joe Young is hoping it will be a case of hair today, gone tomorrow.
The 18-year-old has vowed to let goalkeeper Tommy Scott shave his head in the centre circle IF his side wins five matches in a row.
With Winch securing four victories in quick succession, the bald truth is that Young is now on the brink of his silly joke becoming reality if they can beat sixth-placed Exmouth Town at the Charters Community Stadium!
Young laughed: “I was inspired by Frank Ilett, the Manchester United fan who, famously, is refusing to cut his hair until Manchester United win five in a row.
“I was fairly confident when I did this deal (with Scott) as we were losing and drawing but now it has all got a bit hair-raising.”
City’s remarkable turn of form has created a buzz around Winchester but shocked Young: “Now all of a sudden we are one win away from me having to go through with this. ”
Scott, who is known for having steady hands, will become a part-time barber despite having ZERO experience in cutting hair.
Young added: “It is a little scary as I don’t know how much I can trust Tommy with the clippers.”
Winchester City, who are joint top of the table, host 6th in the league Exmouth Town, in a hair-raising spectacle at the Charters Community Stadium.
City have started November with four wins, including a 3-1 victory away at Mousehole, after a 235 mile round trip.
Winchester also beat Larkhall athletic away most recently in a close shave, helping them with their surge back towards the Southern League Premier South.
Exmouth head into the game winless after their last four games, which leaves Young with a huge opportunity to finally get his haircut.
