Seven-time Premier League champion extended his lead at the top of the Premier League, after defeating Nathan Apinall 6-4 in a thrilling night of darts in Newcastle.
The Dutchman now has an eight-point lead after his third successive night win, following his victories in Berlin and Glasgow.
It was Aspinall who was looking the likely after going 2-0 up before Van Gerwen won five legs in a row to cement his authority and eventually go on to win the tie.
Van Gerwen, who came into the night top of the table, dispatched Welshman Gerwyn Price and then again got the better of teenage sensation Luke Littler in the semi-finals, despite the match going into a last-leg decider.
Nathan Aspinall originally came into the night without a win. ‘The Asp’ won his first game of the series against Michael Smith and then defeated Rob Cross in a tense match to set up the final with Van Gerwen.
Van Gerwen told Sky Sports: “I love those gold trophies! It’s good to win like I did.
“People think it’s easy but it’s not. All the pressure from all the crowd, you have to deal with it all the time.
“I’m going to give myself targets, no goals, just keep focusing otherwise I get bored”.
The current defending champion was a little below par last week in Glasgow, but was back to his impressive self when he easily got past Price in the first round.
His semi-final against Littler was the fourth-time the pair had faced off – it was Van Gerwen who for the third time got the better of the teen.
Night number five of the Premier League will take place on the Thursday, 29 February in Exeter.
