Portsmouth born boxer Lucas Ballingall, has powered his way up through the rankings throughout his eight year career so far and gained popularity after claiming the English super-lightweight belt in 2022.
It was a bout against Boy Jones JR in September last year where the 26-year-old acquired his crown via unanimous decision, avenging a defeat in 2021 where he lost out on the English lightweight title.
The loss was his first shot at gold in any weight class but he missed out on glory against Myron Mills who took the victory again by unanimous referee decision.
This was the second loss of Ballingall’s career, with the first coming in a tough spell during the coronavirus outbreak.
Boxing came to a standstill like the rest of the sporting world, meaning that Ballingall could not get any chance of a fight within the UK meaning he had to think of other ways to stay fit.
An opportunity arose in Belarus, and it was one he could not turn down due to the importance of keeping fit whilst being in lockdown.
The defeat came to Russian hard-hitter Arslan Magomedov and again was decided by a unanimous referee decision and it was after these two losses he decided to take the step down to the super-lightweight weight class.
However the weight change has seen Ballingall become a revelation in the sport and has been victorious in all of his fights since.
It was his last fight against Billy Pickles, that has cemented his threatening and promising status as he defended his title by TKO.
The classy Portsmouth stylist is now looking for more as he continues his rise in the sport and hopes to one day be in with a shot of winning world titles:
“So far (the English super-lightweight title) is the biggest achievement of my career, but i’m always looking for more and hope to win more titles and maybe even world titles one day.”
