The Importance of Community in Non-League

Hythe & Dibden committee members stood outside a coach

HYTHE & Dibden are a club that plays in the Wessex Premier League (step 5 of non league) and rely upon the support of volunteers and local business.

Getting members of the community can often be the making or the breaking of clubs at this level.

Commercial Director Tom Chambers is the man who is tasked with getting local business involved to support the club told me how important their contribution is:

“It’s hugely important in this day and age…

It’s tough for small businesses so that’s challenge but as you see and you look round the ground alot of people do put their hands in their pockets to support us”

Chairman of the football club Nigel Green stressed the importance of community and how getting them more involved is a focus of the club:

“Community is huge we need to get the community involved more which as a club we’re trying to do”

There are over 1700 non league clubs with each and every one needing the support of local people and business.

Making Hythe & Dibden a microcosm of what happens up and down the country.

It is truly an extraordinary feat that they all get the support they need.
