Southampton Archery club recently took part in there biannual floodlight frostbite competition.
Shooting started at six, well after the sun had sunk behind the horizon and the winter chill had begun.
The floodlights barely illuminated the targets 30 meters away but yet the attendance and the spirits were all high.
Southampton Archery club host a number of interesting events that play with factors involved with Archery to keep competing fresh.
From replicating the battle of Agincourt to shooting for a flag atop a pole these competitions are a great way at keeping new compeitiors engaged as well as bringing new people in.
The popularity of the event replicated a wider trend in the sport.
Popularity of Archery post pandemic has sky rocketed, boosted by grassroots events such as these.
Since 2012 Archery GB have also implemented a number of shemes and programs to boost participation.
For example working with Ex service men and women with injuries as part of the rehabilitation process.
Many neurodiverse people have also found there home in the sport, with many saying its calming, individual based nature appealed them more so than most sports.
Archery is also a sport Sunnah sport meaning its promoted in the Qur’an, as a result Archery GB launched a campaign into getting especially Women of Muslim faith into the sport.
Local events and GB Archery’s campaigns work to hep eachother, with more schemes allowing for more local club participation which in turn helps create campaigns.
This is why events such as th efrostite are so important in the sports growth.
