Southampton 7-A-Side season taking storm!

Southampton is home to approximately 250,000 people, many of whom, stay active and keep fit. One way people do this is by competing and participating in Leisure Leagues 7-a-side competitions on Monday’s and Tuesday’s

As students move away from their homes to a brand new city, sport is a way to socialise with new people.

One team who play in the Monday league is Solent University, a team made up of second year students at Solent University.

A team of friends and course mates, it is a good way that all of the players stay physically fit, but also keep their mental health in a good capacity too.

A study by BJSM states that physical activity is around 1.5 times more effective than counselling or medication by reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Mental health is a massive issue within the United Kingdom, 1 in 5 adults in the UK suffer with a mental health problem.

7-A-Side football is cheap and fairly simple to access for most people within a big town or city, it is a good way that people, no matter their age or gender, to keep active and in to keep in touch with friends and their wellbeing.

Leisure Leagues hosts multiple leagues in Southampton, spanning across the course of the week.

With venues at St Mark’s Church of England school and the Outdoor Sports Centre, there are many places across the city for people to access.

For many members of the team, football is a way of escape from stress of working or school assignments, or even just getting by day to day.

You can listen down below to the Solent University side as they explain why they participate in 7’s leagues and why you should think about joining your local league.
