Tottenham Hotspur’s planned protest falls flat after heroic comeback in second half.
Spurs found themselves two goals down at the break due to goals coming from Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo.
All signs pointed towards another predictable loss for Thomas Franks side.
Spurs fans have long been frustrated with their clubs’ performances both on and off the pitch.
Despite winning the Europa League last season, many Spurs fans feel that they have not grown enough as a football club and that their owners are hindering their potential.
Rumblings in the Lilywhites fanbase were not quelled by the resignation of long-term chairman Daniel Levy.
Pressure is still mounting on Tottenham’s hierarchy and majority shareholders ENIC who would have been expecting a protest from their fans during the match.
However, the protest never materialised.
The 75th minute mark arrived and hardly a soul left the ground.
Just minutes earlier Dominic Solanke had levelled the game with an acrobatic scorpion kick and now the priorities of Spurs’ most loyal had switched.
Some fans who did observe the protest took to social media to ironically protest the lack of protesting.
Others criticised the idea in the first place and questioned why such a protest should take place so late in the game and when the team was riding the wave of momentum from the Solanke equaliser.
“Stupid idea.
“It should be organised protests, fans won’t leave if their team have a chance of scoring a winner.
“WHAT IS THE POINT?
All the noise online, yet no action has been taken to actually do something meaningful which could move us closer to the main goal…”
It’s clear that there has been a disconnect between the online and match going support.
The question that remains for many spurs fans is where are they going?
And will they find the success they need under their current ownership?
