Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini cleared of corruption

FORMER Fifa president Sepp Blatter has been cleared of corruption charges that relate to the allegations of fraud at the global footballing body along with Ex-French footballer Michel Platini.

The case has been ongoing since 2015 when allegations of fraud and corruption from the Fifa president led to a raid in Zurich which resulted in a US investigation.

The claim was that Blatter had made a £1.6m payment to Platini back in 2011, which both men have continued to deny.

Courts in Switzerland on Tuesday have cleared the two men of any wrongdoing.

The scandal is the biggest in football history and involved many officials from governing bodies and marketing executives from around the world.

Off the back of this, Blatter resigned and destroyed Platini’s reputation.

Speaking to reporters following Tuesday’s trail, Blatter said: “Finally, the court has dispensed justice and for me, my family and my friends. This is a big thing.”

He added: “I’m full of emotion right now.”

Platini also spoke to reporters saying that his “persecution was now “totally over”, adding: “Today, my honour has returned and I am very happy.”

Lawyers of Platini have said that they are going to be planning legal action against anyone who is responsible for the criminal proceedings.
