ALEX DUNNE could be close to signing for Red Bull after being released by McLaren ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix.
Sitting fifth in the Formula 2 standings, Dunne has impressed many teams and critics around the paddock.
The Irish teenager, in his debut season, has already competed in two practice sessions in Formula 1 driving to an impressive fourth in Austria, but only managing 16th in Azerbaijan.
The shock announcement of Dunne’s departure from McLaren has sparked interest from Red Bull who are looking at potential replacements at both Red Bull and Racing Bulls.
What could Dunne’s arrival mean for Tsunoda and Lawson?
It has been an amazing season for rookie Isack Hadjar who has outperformed Racing Bulls teammate Liam Lawson, and Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda.
Red Bull have already expressed interest in promoting Hadjar from the junior team to replace Tsunoda who has had an underwhelming season.
Liam Lawson who was only given two races in the Red Bull seat at the start of the season before being replaced by the Japanese driver, has also had a pretty poor season.
It seems highly unlikely that Tsunoda will be willing to be demoted back down.
So if Hadjar is given a shot at Red Bull, and head of driver development Helmut Marko feels as if Lawsons time is up, that leaves two empty seats at Racing Bulls.
Who is Arvid Lindblad?
Arvid Lindblad is another name linked to a potential debut in Formula 1.
At just 18-years-old, the British-Swedish driver has grabbed the attention of Red Bull and Marko.
Lindblad is part of Red Bulls junior programme and could be given one of the empty seats.
He finished fourth in his rookie season in Formula 3, and after spending just one season there, was promoted to Formula 2 and is currently seventh in the championship.
If the Brit gets called up for Red Bull, he will become the youngest driver to race for the team since Max Verstappen first joined back in 2016.
The most likely outcome is that Hadjar will get the opportunity at Red Bull and either both Lindblad and Dunne will get their break at Racing Bulls, or Lindblad will be the only one to get the call up.
