PAUL Doswell has recently taken on the role of first team manger at Sholing F.C, and is already thinking about his long term aims for the club.
The non-league manager is well-known for his long spells at clubs like Eastleigh and Sutton and leaving them in much better conditions than when he arrives, and Sholing is no exception for him.
He’s revealed he’s reaching for off-pitch opportunities for the Southampton based club, to increase funding, subsequently making the team’s on the pitch performance much better.
Doswell has said he’s striving for the club to play higher level football:
“If you look at my track record, I left my previous clubs in a miles better place not just with the football, but as much off the pitch, which is what I want to do with Sholing.
“My mission within my time is to get the club into National League South and improve and sustain that, if we can do that it would be brilliant, I want it to be a very exciting place to be.
“This is probably a seven or eight year job for me, it’s going to be a long term project, I don’t see myself wanting to go anywhere else.
“I was born and bred in Sholing so for me there’s a nice story there.”
The 56-year-old has also brought in some new faces to help boost the team, and switch up their style of football.
The Boatmen only had five wins this season before Doswell arrived, and since then he’s already won his first two league matches in charge.
He believes the change in management can help turn their form around:
“I’ve brought it Darren Welched as a kitman, Ross White as head coach of the first team and scouts Bryan French and Steve Beckers.
“In terms of the style of football, it’s a change to what they’ve done in the past.
“Ross is a UEFA A, UEFA B coach and has done many educational courses on possession football, and we want to play exciting and attacking football. where we control the ball as well.”
Doswell’s side next face Walton and Hersham at home on Saturday who sit four places above them in Southern League Premier.
