Feuding football teams Unite for the first time for an all Southampton training session

UNIVERSITY of Southampton’s American football team have teamed up with Solent’s for a joint training session.

Despite the pairs feud running deeper than sport, the rivals put their distaste aside for the first time ever to train on Saturday at wide lane sports ground.

The aim of the session was to utilise the talent from both sides to improve the quality of the teams ahead of their season opener next week.

American football is a growing sport in England especially among young University students and sessions such as this aim to improve the quality of teams in the city and the League by sharing resources.

Training with rivals aimed to allow the players to utilise the feud into a more competitive training session than they would have otherwise which made it to be more productive than most.

Players such as John, Solent RedHawks corner back, stated that it allowed them to gain experience and a feel of high pressure, in game atmosphere more than regular training. Something they will hope to take into the season.

The RedHawks begin their season on November second when they face Surrey Stingers while the Stags face Plymouth Blitz.

John went on to state he wants a positive record for the team, 3 wins from five would be good for the team.

Despite the training being very competitive and leaving most athletes exhausted, the effects of the session will be unclear until the season begins.
