Everything you need to know about Formula One ahead of the 2026 season – Aston Martin

FORMULA ONE is a sport that has many different complexities to it. From different components that make up the cars, most with names and abbreviations, that let’s be honest, no one truly understands, to hundreds of regulations that teams and drivers need to adhere to.

But before we throw you in at the deep end, we are going to walk you through the different teams.

In the first part, we talked about Alpine, so next up is…

Aston Martin

Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, based at Silverstone, Northamptonshire, has been competing in Formula One since 2021.

They initially began in 1959, but due to extremely bad performances in the 59 and 60 season, they left the sport.

The team was formerly known as BWT Racing Point Formula One Team but rebranded to Aston Martin.

For the 2026 season, Aston Martin will be using a Honda power unit after spending 5 seasons using Mercedes.

As it stands, this looks like a terrible mistake from the UK team, as pre-season testing has supposedly left them 4-4.5 seconds slower than the rest of the teams.

Who makes up the Aston Martin team?

The chairman at Aston Martin is Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll; you will see this surname again later.

In 2018, he purchased the team Force India and rebranded it to Racing Point Force India, later Racing Point.

The Team Principal is long term veteran of motorsport, Adrian Newey. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest engineers in the history of Formula One. With his designs winning 14 drivers’ and 12 constructors’ titles.

His job is to oversee all the technical, operational and personnel aspects to ensure the team is moving in the right direction.

Ultimately, he has final say over key strategic decisions and represents the team publicly in the media.

Like every F1 team, there are two drivers.

Spaniard Fernando Alonso is a two-time driver’s champion and is the oldest driver on the grid. He joined the team for the start of the 2023 season, joining from Alpine.

Alonso started his F1 career in 2001, racing for Minardi, before becoming a test driver at Renault in 2002 and getting the full seat in 2003.

In 2005 and 2006, he won the driver’s championship at Renault

He spent one season at McLaren in 2007, where he competed with Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikonen for the championship, then went back to Renault for 08&09.

2010-2014 saw him racing for Ferrari, 2015-2019 he raced for McLaren.

After not getting a contract for 2020, he retired before landing himself at Alpine for 2021 & 2022.

Canadian Lance Stroll is the second driver, and yes, he is the son of chairman Lawrence Stroll.

His Formula One career began in 2017, racing for Williams for two seasons until 2019, when he was given a seat at Racing Point by his dad.

Their current test/reserve drivers are American Jak Crawford and Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne.

As of the date of writing, ahead of the 2026 season opener, Aston Martin has entered 120 races, has 597 points, 9 podiums, and 3 fastest laps.

Aston Martin’s constructor championship record is as followed:

2021 – 7th

2022 – 7th

2023 – 5th

2024 – 5th

2025 – 7th

With the new regulations now at play, these first few races could determine what direction the teams go in for the rest of the season.

Next up is newcomer Audi.
