EASTLEIGH return to the Silverlake this evening as they host immediate rivals Sutton United in the National League in a crucial six-pointer in the search for National League safety.

The clash at the Silverlake this evening is vital for both sides in the race to secure safety in the National League as the season enters the final month and its climax.

The Spitfires return to Hampshire following a tough run of fixtures which included clashes with promotion chasers Carlisle United, York City, Rochdale and Hartlepool United. The side’s attention now turns to 17th placed Sutton United.

With just seven remaining fixtures in the calendar, Richard Hill’s side were boosted by the arrival of Jayden Moore on loan from Southampton until the end of the season. This is alongside the return of several players from injury in recent weeks.

Upon signing yesterday, Jayden Moore said: “I’m really happy to be here, and I am grateful for the opportunity to represent the club.

“I am looking forward to getting started tomorrow night under the lights. I can’t wait to meet the fans and get going!”

The Spitfires earned a vital six points thanks to last minute winners against Truro City and Brackley Town in recent home fixtures and will be looking to record another impressive performance against the U’s this evening.

Speaking about this evening’s six-pointer against Sutton, Eastleigh manager, Richard Hill, said: “The result [this evening] whatever it is, if we win it’s helpful but it doesn’t define Sutton’s season.

“If we draw, it doesn’t define either of our seasons and if we lose, it doesn’t define our season. We still have games to come but it’s the next game in front of us and it’s a game we have to win.”

Sutton United

The U’s have had a mixed run of form in recent weeks as they recorded impressive victories over Hartlepool United and Scunthorpe United respectively, but also dropped points against three of the four sides in the relegation zone. This includes a 3-0 defeat at home to Truro City on Saturday.

Chris Agutter’s side currently occupy 17th position in the National League standings on 43 points thanks to ten wins and 13 draws from their 39 league fixtures this campaign. A victory at the Silverlake could see the U’s climb to 14th.

The Greater London side have travelled well recently, losing just once on the road since mid February. In this time the U’s have earned eight points from a possible 15 on their travels and will be looking to improve on this record at the Silverlake on Tuesday evening.

Previous Meetings

The sides have met 13 times previously with the U’s edging the results with five wins to the Spitfires four, with the clashes ending all square in the other four fixtures.

The last time these sides met, two first half goals courtesy of David Ogbonna and Lewis Simper were enough to secure all three points for the U’s.
