Could Jonas Eidevall’s time at Arsenal Women’s be over

Jonas Eidevall time at Arsenal could be coming to an end if his side fail to beat League giants on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are one of the Women’s Super League’s top teams and it is safe to say that they haven’t been performing to the best of their ability.

Many people have commented that the team have seemed to be lacking flair and composure on the pitch, calling for manager, Jonas Eidevall to be sacked.

Since the start of the season they have gained 5 points from 3 games – with results being 1 win and 2 draws.

Eidevall joined the club in June 2021 and he came in to take over from Joe Montemurro.

Since his time at the club, he is a two time Continental Cup Winner in 2023 and 2024, his highest league finish was in his first season where Arsenal lost the title by one point.

In the past two seasons, Arsenal have had two back to back 3rd place finishes.

Arsenal drew 2-2 to Manchester City on the opening weekend of the WSL, a game that gave people hope for the season as City are a top contender for the title.

They then travelled away to Leicester City, where the team only narrowly succeeded due to a goal by Frida Maanum in the second half.

From here is where it all went downhill for the Swedish manager.

Arsenal drew at home to mid-table side Everton, the team had 21 shots and could not put one in the back of the net, this is the first time in 15 years that Arsenal did not score against the Merseyside club in a league game.

This leaves Arsenal sitting sixth in the table, with the likes of Liverpool and close rivals Manchester United sitting above the Gunners.

Arsenal then went on to lose away against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, they lost 5-2 and this wasn’t the result they were expecting.

They previously beat Bayern 2-0 two seasons ago in the Champion’s League so what went wrong?

They had more possession and seemed to be fairly in control of the match, they just lacked tactics defensively and that all links back to Jonas Eidevall.

So could Arsenal beat their rivals despite their recent performances or will they fall into Chelsea’s trap and allow them to easily beat them?
