Cheltenham Festival celebrates its 100th anniversary as Gold Cup favourite Galopin Des Champs looks to defend title.
Challengers in contention include last years runner up Bravemansgame, Grand National champion Corach Rambler and Bernadine Mulryan’s Fastorslow.
Unfortunately, Hewick, the bargain purchase at £800 and victor of the King George VI Chase, has been withdrawn from the competition, citing the unsuitable rain-softened ground at the Gloucestershire track, where the prize money stands at £625,000. Trainer John ‘Shark’ Hanlon made the decision based on his horse’s unfavourable conditions.
Renowned Irish trainer Willie Mullins aims to secure his fourth victory in the premier event within six years with Al Boum Photo claiming victories back in 2019 and 2020.
The main event takes place this Friday at 3.30pm, wrapping up the fourth and final day of the festival.
