CARLOS Alcaraz defeated Alex de Minaur in straight sets to secure his place in the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

The Spanish international won 7-5, 6-2, 6-1 to set up a tie against world number three Alexander Zverev.

The world number one was knocked out of the 2024 Australian Open by Zverev and is looking to get revenge over his German opponent this time round.

The Australian Open is the only Gland Slam denying Alcaraz a Career Grand Slam, and achieving this feat this year would make him the youngest player to do so in the Open Era.

Rafael Nadal achieved his Career Grand Slam at 24 years-old, with Alcaraz two years younger at 22-years-old.

However it won’t be an easy task for the Spaniard, as Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic are on the other side of the draw.

Sinner faces American Ben Shelton with Djokovic taking on Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, so it’s by no means going to be straightforward for Alcaraz.

However he has proved over and over again he can perform when the pressure is on, as the world number one triumphed over Sinner at the last Grand Slam at the U.S Open.

The last three Grand Slams have all been a matchup between Alcaraz and Sinner, with the former winning on two out of the three occasions.

It could well be a fourth consecutive meeting between the top two players in the world as the duo have dominated the sport as of late.
