TWO late goals in the last ten minutes of the second half pushed Bashley down the table in the Division One South league, dangerously close to the relegation zone.
There were high spirits going into the game at the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium, the same ground where Bashley won the first round of the FA Trophy tie on penalties five weeks ago, beating Evesham 7-8.
During the disappointing match, Bashley bought on three of their newest recruits from Winchester City all making their away game debut: Dan Walster, Henry Brooks and Callum Baughn as well as Ash Pope from Shaftesbury.
Only 16 minutes into the game The Bash were close to going 1-0 down after Evesham danger-man Luke Steele had his shot deflected at the expense of a corner.
The first half ended without a single shot for Ollie Cherrets’ side, meaning substitutions were on the horizon for the next 45 minutes: Brett Williams replaced Pope whilst Jonny Davis took over from Walster.
Perking up in the second half, Max Wilcock was quickly shown the offside flag as he raced clear of the defenders.
Putting up a fight to try and take home the draw, Bashley’s hopes died when Evesham’s first goal happened in the 82 minute of the match.
Alfie Dunn hammered the ball into the back of the goal just after Bashley goalkeeper Ross Casey made two heroic saves.
They doubled their lead again a minute later before Bash could regain their composure, a low cross was met first-time by Steele at the near post heading it over the line and the game was over.
Despite an extra seven minutes added time, it was too late for Bashley to try and get back a goal.
Bashley will visit Larkhall Athletic for another League game on Wednesday 18th October.
