Joel Embiid has declared for Team USA’s Olympic basketball team

The current MVP of the National Basketball Association (NBA) has turned his back on Cameroon, and decided he wants to play amongst the best of the best in the Olympics.

Teaming up with the likes of Lebron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, who share 10 world championship rings between them.

It would be very unlikely for USA to walk away from the competition with anything but gold.

Having won the most valuable player of last season with The Philadelphia 76ers but falling short in the playoffs yet again. Embiid has been starved of any trophies.

Joel Embiid has a dual citizenship between France and America, so he could have declared for either. Or chosen to represent Cameroon, where he lived until he was sixteen before moving to Montverte Academy in Florida.

Many consider his silver-less closet to be the reason he has declared for the team.

However, Embiid has come out and responded to some backlash on the media with his reasoning being, he wants to represent the nation where his son, Arthur Embiid, was born.

Team USA have won the previous four Olympic Golds, and have won 14 out of the 20 since basketball was introduced to the event.

Managing to get to the final each time they lost out on gold, and achieved silver medals.

So it looks promising that his three year old son, is going to have an Olympic champion as a father.
