The Hornets are coming to Southampton for the FA Cup Third Round

Southampton in a group huddle.

CHAMPIONSHIP side Watford will face Southampton Women’s FC this Sunday in the Third Round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

The Hornets were waiting for their upcoming opponent to be decided last weekend, with Southampton and Maidenhead playing their Second Round tie late.

The Sirens were victorious with a comfortable 3-0 win at Winklebury, which saw winger Chloe Ball scoring her first of the season.

Izzie Thorogood also added to her tally of assists, getting her third in two games.

Watford are a freshly promoted team after beating Nottingham Forrest 1-0 in last year’s FAWNL Play-Off.

Poppy Wilson’s headed goal in the 17th minute sent the Hornets up to the WSL Championship.

Watford are in struggling form as they currently sit bottom of the table on only five points in eleven games.

As a Championship side, they have a by-through to the Third Round and on paper are expected winners.

Watford have plenty of experienced academy graduates – the likes of Ellie Head from Arsenal and Charlotte Fleming from Chelsea.

Their main threats lie in their attack, with strong and agile forwards Bianca Baptiste and Gemma Davison, both of whom are former Tottenham players.

Davison is also a coach with Chelsea Women’s First Team.

Southampton’s defence has seen plenty of rotation this season, with co-captain Chloe Tucker remaining a dependable force in the back line.

Goalkeeper Grace Jenman has spent many years at Southampton FC’s Women’s Academy, and is never shy from pulling off a wonder save.

The danger player for the Sirens is Britt Jeal – a busy attacking midfielder that can turn a player inside-out and score shock-inducing goals.

Due to consistent bad weather, Southampton’s FA Cup fixtures have been delayed, and a ground is yet to be confirmed for this Sunday’s game.

But no matter where the game is held, it hopes to be a fantastic test.
