Wolves controversial defeat to Fulham on Monday night has “turned me against VAR” stated O’Neill, the manager re-watched several incidents throughout the game, revealing that referee “Michael Salisbury admitted to three errors.”
Video Assistant Referee (VAR), has haunted Wanderers profusely this season, with their first wrongful decision coming on the opening weekend of the Premier League in their defeat to Man United.
“Maybe tonight has finally turned me against VAR. I thought it would probably help but it doesn’t”
Gary O’Neill
Three decisions went against Wolves last night at Craven Cottage.
Fulham’s first penalty, which was awarded at 55 minutes, happened when Tom Cairney went down in the box after a challenge from Nelson Semedo – Salisbury explained to O’Neill that VAR Stuart Atwell should have advised him to overturn his decision.
Tim Reams should have been shown a second yellow card after a foul in the box against Hee-Chan, but was shown nothing despite being booked earlier for a less serious foul.
Finally Carlos Vinicius made contact with the nose of Wolves defender Max Kilmanin the 88 minute but again was not sent off and was only shown a yellow card.
“I don’t think VAR helped him (Atwell) bt in fact hindered him… he would’ve done a better job on his own.”
Gary O’Neill
Wolves have missed out on seven points throughout the season after poor decisions from VAR giving them only 15 points instead of the 22 that O’Neill believes they deserve.
Only goal difference separates Wolves and Fulham in the Premier League table.
