THE father of Liverpool star Luiz Diaz has finally been released after being held hostage for 13 days by the left wing guerrillas.
Luis Manuel Diaz was safely handed over to his family by the National Liberation Army after being abducted on the 28th October in his hometown of Barrancas.
The footballer’s mother was also kidnapped alongside her husband but was freed within hours.
A video has been circling online of the heartwarming welcome Diaz received from friends and members of his family as he returned safely to his home with overwhelming relief.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told the media that the player was “really happy” when hearing of his fathers release.
The club also released a statement thanking all those involved in the release of Diaz’s father and that the whole of Liverpool is “delighted” with his safe return.
Despite enduring a horrific week, the Liverpool winger has still played an important role for the reds in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old came off the bench to score a late equaliser for his side against Luton last Sunday in a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road.
During the celebrations, the Colombian winger lifted his shirt to reveal a message in Spanish that translated as “freedom for papa”.
