AFTER the Glazer family announced they were selling Manchester United on 22nd November 2022, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim have both made bids of around £5bn to buy the club.
After neither of the two bidders was able to reach the Glazers valuation, Jassim pulled out of the deal leaving his final bid at almost double United’s market value.
Ratcliffe initially bid to buy 69% of United but reduced it to a majority stake of 25%.
It is expected Ratcliffe’s Ineos group will pay £1.25bn of the share of the club.
The deal is expected to be agreed during this month’s international break, possibly as early as next week.
It is thought that £254 million in additional funds will be made for infrastructure of the Old Trafford stadium.
If the deal is successful, Ratcliffe will be in control of the footballing operation of Manchester United giving the fans and the players a new pair of eyes looking over at how the club is run.
