SOLENT University introduced their new Development Netball League’s this week with a free taster session, however many of the girls that attended left with a less than sweet taste in their mouths.
Low numbers and a lack of preparation meant that the session became more of a free practice.
The taster session made a cry for more to sign up with only 16 people showing up, only eight of which are eligible due to BUCS fixtures.
The league is set to be comprised of six teams, made up of staff, students and alumni, however, it could be set to open to the public and other local universities due to low numbers.
A league that is proposed to have 6 teams each consisting of 10 people to play each other, it is also set to be officiated by referees.
The netball development league was brought in replace the second BUCS and recreational team.
Charlie Dast, Sports Development Officer said: “It came around because we had to make a shift in out sports offering at Solent, we have been faced with some financial cuts. Unfortunately, we have had to cut a lot of our BUCS teams.”
The lack of organisation for this proposed league has left many of the girls wondering if they should stick with Solent sports or look further afield for training.
The cost to join the league is £100 and it is set to start on Wednesday 21st October with the entry deadline on Friday 16th October.
