DOUGLAS Luiz is set to return to his former club, Aston Villa, on loan.
The 27-year-old who was formerly on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus has completed a loan deal with Aston Villa just days before Monday’s transfer deadline.
The Brazilian footballer had also gained the interest of Chelsea, who currently sit fifth on the table with Villa nine points clear in third. Nonetheless, Luiz chose to return to his former home at Villa Park.
Luiz made over 200 appearances during his time at Villa between 2019 and 2024.
After being sold to Juventus for £42.5M in 2024, he only made three Serie A starts before joining Forest at the beginning of the season where he only started in five Premier League games.
His loan at Forest included an option to buy which was conditional on the number of appearances he made for the club, but the finalisation of this transfer terminates his season-long loan.
Villa manager Unai Emery was looking to add reinforcements to his midfield in light of recent injuries with Boubacar Kamara ruled out for the season as well as their captain John McGinn sustaining an ankle injury during the squad’s recent victory over Newcastle United last weekend.
This new addition to the squad could be influential as Villa enters the second half of the season with four points short of the table leaders Arsenal while qualifying for the Europa League last 16 with one league-phase game to go.
Villa continue their efforts to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes, hoping to complete £18M signing for Besiktas striker Tammy Abraham.
