AFTER the covid pandemic, running was an easy escape for many people to get out of their houses in a difficult time, but the sport has continued to increase since.
To increase the participation of running, people set up run clubs on a regular basis, one of the local shops, Run Company Southampton have a weekly 5k run open to anyone willing join.
Lottie, the store manager said: “I started this group up when I started working in this company three years ago and it’s been going since then.
“There are so many clubs in Southampton to be fair it is actually quite a competitive area, […] we’re a nice small group, but I’m happy with that.
“I still find the motivation getting out of the door is the hardest bit, so it’s having people to run with a couple times a week […] I’ve got them to keep me accountable.”
27 percent of the UK population run one to three times per week, a 5% increase on last year, making it one of the most popular sports in the UK currently.
With groups like Lottie’s, hopefully people can continue to find a home at run clubs and increase participation around the country.
