Southampton appoint a new Technical Director

SOUTHAMPTON Football Club have officially appointed Johannes Spors as the club and Sport Republic’s new group Technical Director.

The 42-year-old will assist on issues such as player pathways and development on the south-coast.

Spors was previously global sporting director of the 777 Group, who have stakes in clubs like Genoa in Italy, Red Star in Paris and Standard Liege in Belgium.

This was also the group that were unsuccessful in the recent attempt to takeover another struggling Premier League side Everton.

The arrival of the German at Saints follows Chairman Henrik Kraft stepping down earlier in January with the club’s majority owner Dragan Solak taking the role.

With the clubs position rock bottom of the Premier League with two wins from 24 games, both the club’s board and the fans feel there needed to be some changes to the Southampton hierarchy.

When speaking to the club, Spors says: “I’m excited to finally start work at Southampton. Saints are a club with a great history and commitment to developing players, not only in the Academy, but also at First Team level.

“I look forward to working with the team at Staplewood to build a strategy that helps bring success on the pitch.”

His role doesn’t officially begin until Saturday 15th February 2025 and he will report to the clubs CEO Phil Parsons.
