JUST like that, this weekend’s matches of the WSL have been and gone. Many teams performed brilliantly with some just simply falling under the radar – find out everything you need to know about this past weekend’s fixtures.

Aston Villa hosted Leicester City at Villa Park and neither side came away with the score they wanted as they had to settle for a share of the three points available.

With a 0-0 draw on the cards and heading into international break, both teams will be looking into how they can start scoring after the interval to keep pushing themselves away from relegation danger.

Since there wasn’t anything overly exciting to happen in the match, the only thing we can reflect upon is the home side’s statistics.

Villa managed to challenge Leicester with 18 shots, 61% possession rate and 536 passes whilst in reply only getting 6 shots put at them by the away side.

We then move on to Chelsea against Tottenham Hotspur at Kingsmeadow Stadium, a London derby for this autumn afternoon.

Tottenham put up quite the stubborn fight against the reigning champs, challenging them in all areas of the pitch, but fell short of a draw by one goal.

Keira Walsh from outside the box, sent a rocket of a ball towards the goal, leaving no hope for Lize Kop to save it – making this the goal to hand all three points to Chelsea earning Walsh her 7th WSL goal of all time.

Despite the bitter loss, Spurs sit in fourth with 12 points, one place ahead of their North London rivals, Arsenal.

Chelsea still have Manchester United chomping at their heels for the WSL title, if Chelsea are to drop any points after this with the Red Devils still winning, United will overtake Chelsea on goal difference.

London City Lionesses got their third win of the season and their second consecutive victory at home against league strugglers West Ham.

This fixture gave us the third 1-0 scoreline of the whole weekend as competitiveness is really starting to strengthen and every team is finding their defensive groove.

Skipper Kosovo Asllani, was the one to gain all three points for her side as she pounced on a possession error from West Ham goalkeeper, Kinga Szemik in the 67th minute.

West Ham have now played six games in the Women’s Super League this season and are still looking for that first point as they sit in 12th in danger of relegation in May.

Everton played their first game at Hill Dickinson stadium since permanently moving to Goodison Park and it was in this that they welcomed Manchester United.

Everton struck first early on in the first half – Honoka Hayashi scored for the Toffees as they took the lead in the new stadium.

The visitors came back out for the second half knowing that they had work to do otherwise they would lose a grip on the WSL title.

Melvine Malard and an own goal from Hikaru Kitagawa let Gareth Skinner’s side go 2-1 up. New signing from the summer transfer window, Jess Park, scored a brace in five minutes to cement the win for her side.

Arsenal got their first win in three matches as they defeated Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium.

With youngsters Michelle Ageymang and Rosa Kafaji ineligible to play for Brighton, it would be difficult for the Seagulls to produce a result as these two have shown up for the club the last few games.

Arsenal were pushing hard for those 3 points as redemption for their shaky start to the season whilst Brighton were defending well and taking their chances to strike against the North London side .

Although it was only a 1-0 scoreline, it still got the job done for the Gunners and it is still a result that the South Coast side shouldn’t be disappointed with as it is a vast improvement from their 5-0 loss last time out at the Emirates.

Gareth Taylor is still seeking his first point of the season in the Women’s Super League with Liverpool after meeting with his former side for the first time since departing Manchester City.

However, the Merseyside club left Manchester City in despair as Cornelia Kapocs scored early in the second half – leaving the Cityzens scrambling for the win.

Iman Beney scored in the first 12 minutes after Liverpool’s opener and from there it was anyone’s game to take or end it in a draw.

It was looking probable of the points being shared, however, City left it late, snatching all three points from Liverpool as Aoba Fujino hit it home in the 86th minute.

There is now an internationl break for the rest of October with a lot of Women’s Super League players representing their country, with players in the U18’s, U21’s, U23’s and all the way up to the senior squads.

The WSL will return on November 1st as Gameweek 7 commences, come back then for a round-up of all those games.
