AFC Totton will be liking their lips at the prospect of landing a EFL big fish after a kind draw for the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup.
The Stags 1-0 win over Berkhamsted earned them a home draw against Ramsgate – the second lowest-ranked team in the competition.
With an equally big ambition of a cup run within Hampshire, Winchester City fell short when they were beaten 2-0 at the hands of Maidstone United in the third qualifying round.
It’s the dream ultimately for local non-league sides to potentially face a big side and progress as far as they can within the FA cup competition, not only is it a big occasion and opportunity for the players and staff but also for the club, a chance to make history.
Maidstone’s Levi Amantchi scored a brace for the second week on the bounce as they beat Winchester and knocked the local side out of the FA Cup, destroying all dreams and ambitions they would have had of progressing.
All eyes will be on AFC Totton progressing through against Ramsgate. A win could anticipate a fairytale fixture, potentially facing a team that compete as high as League One. Progressing past them could land AFC Totton facing a Premier League side.
