Racism is still the most often reported type of discrimination in English football. Even in 2025 fans, players and managers are still left asking- when will this finally end?
There is a lack of awareness from the media surrounding those who are accused. For instance, former Crawley Town boss John Yems. Yems was suspended from his position in 2023 and despite being found as not consciously racist, after an FA led investigation, Yems’ has since had his ban extended and remains personally and professionally at a loss.
However, racism is most evident in football with regards to those who suffer because of prejudice from the top to the bottom of the pyramid. Despite some of the world’s best players being mix race or black there is a lack of black representation in the dugout. Currently only Nuno Espirito Santo and Darren Moore are flying the flag of diversity across England’s top four divisions.
Current Boston United defender Cameron Green has experienced racism from the very beginning of his career. Green is hoping to step into coaching once he retires and is completing his coaching badges, but fears his appearance may be a barrier
Likewise, his father Derek, who as well as supporting Cameron throughout his career, is an agent in his own right. Derek has looked after the likes of Neil Danns and Cameron Jerome and believes in some cases the issue of race has prevented some of his clients from progressing.
Hear the stories of these three men as we explore the nuisances behind racism, the affects it has and the different shapes it can take in this week’s edition of the Solent Sports Podcast.
