The official definition for a sport is an institutionalised, competitive activity that requires a high degree of physical exertion, specialized skill, and is governed by a set of rules. And it is because of this definition that extreme ironing is indeed a sport.

One mainstream sport which has recently come under scrutiny as to whether it is a “proper” sport is darts, with many believing a game that can be played in a pub is not a serious sport.
