Totton rue late penalty miss as replay needed to settle FA Cup tie against Truro City

AFC TOTTON drew 1-1 with National League side Truro City in their FA Cup fourth qualifying round encounter.

Jay-Emmanuel-Thomas’ penalty struck the crossbar in the last minute of the game, a devastating blow which denied The Stags victory against opposition a league above them.

It was a game of two halves, as Totton took control of the first half in asserting fashion and Truro flipping the script in the second.

Tyler Cordner’s thumping header from Declan Rose’s corner gave the hosts a deserving first half lead, however The Stags were unable to deliver a crucial second goal.

That opened the door for Truro to bounce back from an abysmal first 45 minutes, restraining Totton to their own half for large parts of the second half.

Like the home side in the first half, The Tinners were rewarded for their continuous efforts at goal, finding an equaliser through Tylor Love-Holmes with less than 10 minutes remaining.

However there was still another late twist in the tale, as The Stags were awarded a penalty in the 98th minute of the match.

Substitute Emmanuel-Thomas stepped up to take the spot kick, whose nervous run-up transpired into his resulting strike, with his attempt reverberating against the woodwork.

The two sides will face each other in a replay tonight, as Totton make the long trek to Truro in hope of advancing to the first round proper for the first time in 14 years.

The winner of the match will make the trip to face Macclesfield in the FA Cup first round.
