SOUTHAMPTON lost 3-2 away at Millwall following a 97th minute winner which put an end to their four-game unbeaten run.
The Saints ended up being without one of their main stars Leo Scienza after he fell ill yesterday morning although Eckert didn’t want to blame the loss on the abscence of one player.
“I think we have an excellent squad, I’m not going to speak about individual players. Credit also to Millwall and the way they set up it is a very good team.
“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy coming here. I still think that we were fighting every bit in the second half, after the way we came back. We just need them to bring it over the line.”
Eckert mentioned that sometimes in games you need to not lose rather than win, it felt like today was one of those after Saints grabbed an 87th minute equaliser.
“You can’t always win, but then you shouldn’t lose it. In the end it obviously hurts, as late goals always hurt but we need to make sure we grow from those moments.”
One positive for the boss was the return of Oriol Romeu, who made his first appearance for the club in 1,190 days.
Although the midfielder is still some way short of full match sharpness, “I think it’s a long time for him also, it has been more than six months since he has been involved in a matchday squad. So we will need to give him some time to find his rhythm.”
