SOUTHAMPTON will host Portsmouth for the first time this season at St Mary’s.
In Saints’ last three matches against Pompey, they have won on an aggregate of 11-1, all wins coming away from home.
Last time out, Saints travelled down the South Coast to Westleigh Park and won 0-4 in the League Cup.
The rivalry between the sides goes back decades; one of the boiling points was in 1976, when Mick Channon scored a last-minute goal for Southampton at Fratton Park to send Pompey down to the third tier.
Relegated, Pompey fans had to watch and see Southampton win the FA Cup a month later against Manchester United.
Southampton Women are at the bragging rights on the South Coast against the blue half, but have only picked up seven points in the league since that October dismantling of Pompey, which now means they are one place ahead of Jay Sadler’s Pompey side.
Pompey have won their last two games, whereas Southampton have not won in eight matches and sacked Remi Allen at the end of February, there last win came against Pompey where they won 0-4 away from home.
Saints manager, Marieanne Spacey-Cole speaks out on her team and whether they are confident for the derby after having a tough run of form in the league.
“Always confident, south coast derbies have a different emotional attachment to them but we have to park that, and be confident in what we do and how we play. We’ve had two games against them this season, we’ve performed really well in those games to we have to take that forward on Saturday.” She told Solent Sports News reporter, Millie Payne.
