The Ryder Cup blew up the sporting world last week, and it is not just the European golfers who are benefiting from the success in the States.
This TikTok will help show that Golf is not for everybody…
Historically, the Ryder Cup has deep English roots. The trophy itself was donated by an English businessman called ‘Samuel Ryder’ back in 1927, and places in England such as The Belfry in Warwickshire have hosted the Ryder Cup multiple times: 1985, 1989, 1993, 2002.
After victories, grassroots golf clubs see a high boost in participation and engagement, and it starts a boost in new players of all ages.
England Golf (The governing body) have seen spikes in engagement and participation in Golf, whether it is renewal of memberships or beginner programmes.
The Ryder Cup gives clubs a great opportunity to use the competition as leverage to engage a new generation of golfers, inspiring a new generation of golfers.
Economic impact for local clubs
The sport is helping clubs around the globe, especially those clubs located near where the event is being hosted. Tourism is a huge benefit for the clubs situated locally to the tournament, but also smaller clubs also benefit indirectly, due to international visitors booking extra rounds nearby.
Cultural and community influence
The Ryder Cup brings golf into mainstream conversation in a way few tournaments do. Energising casual fans is a huge influence in the sport, with everyone coming together, supporting their side and engaging with content.
English clubs have used Ryder Cup years to run open days, themed tournaments, or Ryder Cup-style team matches for members. This is a huge boost for the sport as well as the smaller clubs.
It fosters a sense of European unity and rivalry that local clubs mirror with their own internal “club Ryder Cups.” This helps to boost competitiveness and gives the sport that feisty side, which entices more people to play.
Our package
Despite all the positives I have listed, it is only fair to say that the sport is not for everybody; however, there are many different sides of the sport, which may drive you to play the sport. Whether it is on a course, at a driving range, or surrounded by dinosaurs and obstacles, give the sport a go; you may tee up a new hobby.
The events of last week inspired us to get on the course and get involved, admittedly to differing levels of success! Resulting in a rather experimental and humorous take.
