The FIVE lowest point totals in Premier League History.

SOUTHAMPTON are on a mere 9 points from 26 Premier League games this season and are rightly being questioned as to whether they are the worst side in the competition’s 33 year history.

They have 12 games to try and avoid making this list, of the top 5 worst point totals ever.

5. Aston Villa – 17 points

The 2015-16 season had enough excitement with Leicester’s title victory that it had to be cancelled out by one of the most boring teams ever – Aston Villa during the Randy Lerner era.

Since Martin O’Neill left in 2010 they always managed to just about stay up – and it wasn’t a surprise it happened the year after they sold key players such as Christian Benteke, Fabian Delph and captain Ron Vlaar.

It was their first ever relegation since the Premier League began.

3 = Huddersfield – 16 points

They got promoted to the Premier League through the playoffs in 2016-17, and impressively stayed up under David Wagner in their first season in 16th place.

But second-season syndrome hit, and they got relegated, not to be seen in the Premier League since.

3 = Sheffield United – 16 points

The Blades went down in 2024 and conceded an impressive 104 goals, a Premier League record.

I’ll do the maths – thats 2.74 goals per game!

They were a fantasy football player’s dream, with any half-decent striker guaranteeing themselves a goal on their travels to Bramall Lane.

2. Sunderland – 15 points

They finished bottom in 2002-03, spent two years in the second division sorting themselves out, just to come back up and finish bottom again.

The Black Cats finished on 15 points in the 2005-06 season, not quite beating their 19 points three years prior.

1. Derby County – 11 points

Of course, in 1st place is the famous all star team of Derby County.

This point total seems impossible to beat – holding the title since 2008.

They recorded a not too horrible six points from their first ten games – a run which included their only win of the season, 1-0 vs Newcastle.
