SUSSEX Cricket will receive a 12-point deduction for the upcoming 2026 Rothesay County Championship season due to financial issues.
On top of this, they will also receive one-point deductions in each of the limited-overs competitions, which they were less successful in after failing to make the knockout stages in either tournament.
They will be given these deductions due to suffering “sustained operating losses” in the recent financial year.
Sussex have agreed a financial framework with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), whereby they will supply them with a three-year business plan and show sustainable year-on-year operating profits.
The southern county finished fourth in Division One last year, following their promotion from Division Two in 2024.
Acting chief executive Mark West said via BBC Sport: “We fully understand how disappointing this news will be for everyone connected with Sussex Cricket.
”The points deductions will be an unexpected blow to the players and supporters, but we accept the ECB’s decision.
”We are sorry – it hasn’t been good enough. Our responsibility now is to put things right and ensure the club is in a stronger position going forward.”
The agreed framework will last until 2029, and they will be receiving similar suspended points deductions, which will roll over into the 2027 and 2028 summers.
Sussex have also been given a suspended fine of £100,000, however, will only need to pay that should they breach their agreement with the ECB.
